Weekly Update Friday 30th October 2020

30 October 2020 13:54

from Revd Emma.

Hello everyone,

I do hope you are all keeping well presently.  Here is a quick update on news at All Saints this week.

 Jesus – Light Up Denmead

Running from the 12th-31st October ‘Jesus, Light Up Denmead’ is a selection of seasonal events for the community of Denmead.  There are three parts – a happy, smiley face Pumpkin Carving Competition, a Light in the Darkness – Photography Challenge and Messy Church Online.  For more infomation please either look at our website or visit our dedicted Facebook page: facebook.com/LightUpDenmead

Tomorrow is your last chance to share your photos in the Photography Challlenge and to enter the Pumpkin Carving Competition – so get creative this weekend if you’ve not already contributed!

The Big Poppy Display

The Big Poppy display is now all completed and looks amazing – thank you to all who knitted poppies, and to all who helped stitch it together.  It has been a great community effort.

This hanging poppy display will be put up this weekend across our church porchway and will remain in situ for two and a half weeks as we remember those who gave their lives in service.

Bible Reading Notes 2021 – Message from John Byrne

I’m about to order Bible Reading Notes from BRF (Bible Reading Fellowship) for 2021 at a discounted group price.  The notes have a suggested Bible reading for each day, with accompanying comment and prayer.  At a time when worship in church is restricted and changed, they are an even more valuable way of encouraging faith, understanding and prayer, day by day.

If you would like to be included on the order, please let me know on 023 9225 3621 or byrne.jv@gmail.com by the end of October.

If you would like to change an existing order, likewise get in touch by the end of October.  This year's cost has been £12 p.a. and 2021 will likely be similar.  No payment is required until you receive the January 2021 notes.

All Souls – Time of Reflection

This year we will be holding a special time of quiet, reflection and prayer to mark All Souls and to remember those who have died, and whom we miss dearly.

All Saints will be open between 6-7.30pm on Monday 2nd November and you are welcome to visit briefly or stay for a longer period if you wish. There will be opportunity to light a candle in remembrance of the person who has died. Revd Emma will be present and will be happy to pray with you on an individual basis if you would like.

Work Party – Saturday 7th November 2020

Helpers wanted please. This coming Saturday there will be an Autumn Work Party to do some tidying around the church grounds and jobs in church.

The current forecast is for light cloud and gentle breeze! Starting at 9am and finishing at 1pm we will be tackling a range of outside jobs (cutting back bushes and trees, sweeping, weeding, and clearing gutters) as well as an inside job (painting inside of church doors).

So please just turn up and help for as long as you can. Please bring protective gardening gloves, brushes, loppers and secateurs if you have them. If you can come, it would be helpful if you could let either Steve or Mike know in advance to assist planning.

Any questions please contact one of us. Many thanks. Steve Venn 07803 595 915 or Mike Barge on 9226 8565 or email: denmeadbarges@aol.com

Remembrance Sunday - 8th November 2020

This year we will be marking Remembrance Sunday at 9.00am with a simple, short Holy Communion Service at All Saints.

Then at 10.45am in partnership with Denmead Parish Council and the Scouts there will be an online Act of Remembrance. This will include standing on your doorstep at 11am, bowing your head, and listening as the church bell tolls.  To access this service please go to: www.denmead-remembers.co.uk.  We will also include the service on our own website.    There will not be an 8am or 10am service this day.

Staff Annual Leave

Please note this week (2nd-7th November) Revd Jack is on annual leave – however, Jack will be back for Remembrance Sunday.  Then I will be taking annual leave for 4 days the following week (11th-14th November).  During this time if you have any queries please contact either Revd Jack (07368 957423) or Claire our Parish Administrator (9226 8757).

Our Website:  www.allsaintsdenmead.org.uk

This is just a reminder that you may find it useful to regularly check our website; we have recently spent time revising and renewing it, making sure information is up to date.  Here you will find links to our online services, (both Sunday worship and weekday Morning Prayer) our weekly updates and other reflections, our current service times, plus information about extra events/activities as they arise.

Then starting next week, we will also be sharing a list of resources for all ages that you might like to use at home to support, sustain and encourage your faith.  These are a mixture of resources, many digital, such as Apps and websites etc., but also TV, Radio and Books.  We will regularly update and keep the list short!  I will also make recommendations in this update from time to time.

Safe Numbers @Church

And finally, in recent weeks we have done very well at self-regulating for our services at church, keeping well within our capacity of 60 people.  Therefore, if you would now like to attend slightly more frequently than twice a month, you would be most welcome to do so.  The only weeks we need to be cautious with are the weeks when we have planned a Youth Explorers group and Children’s Activities in church (1st and 29th Nov).

Well, that is all for this week – do take care, and if at any point you would like a chat and/or visit, just call the Vicarage on 9226 2647.  If I am out, please do leave a message and I will return your call.

With every blessing,

Emma
