Weekly Update Friday 16th October 2020
from Revd Emma.
Here is our update from All Saints this week.
Ordination of Revd Jack Williams as Deacon
It was a great joy to witness the Ordination of Jack to the diaconate by Bishop Christopher on Friday 9th October. If you yet want to catch up with the service, it can be viewed on our website: www.allsaintsdenmead.org.uk
To mark the occasion, we gave Jack a few special gifts – a Home Communion Set, a ‘More Tea Vicar?’ coaster and mug plus a Biblical text “The One who has called you is faithful, and He will do it.”
Here follows a message from Jack:
I would like to thank everybody for your welcome to me, Charley and Caleb as we’ve joined you here at All Saints. It has been an unusual start to curacy, not what I expected, but the support as I was first licensed and then again last Friday as I was ordained, has been so moving.
I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful gifts you have given me in recognition of my Ordination, along with the many cards of celebration and support.
It has been great to meet many of you face-to-face through the various services or coming to the church for private prayer. However, I know there are many who I’ve not yet met, so, if you would like I am very happy to be in touch and arrange to visit you.
To contact me please either email: firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a ring on 07368 957 423.
I am so delighted to be here with you all. Revd Jack
Bible Reading Notes 2021 – Message from John Byrne
I’m about to order Bible Reading Notes from BRF (Bible Reading Fellowship) for 2021 at a discounted group price. The notes have a suggested Bible reading for each day, with accompanying comment and prayer. At a time when worship in church is restricted and changed they are an even more valuable way of encouraging faith, understanding and prayer, day by day.
If you would like to be included on the order, please let me know on 023 9225 3621 or email@example.com by the end of October.
If you would like to change an existing order, likewise get in touch by the end of October. This year's cost has been £12 p.a. and 2021 will likely be similar. No payment is required until you receive the January 2021 notes.

The Big Poppy Stitch-Up!
We’re really making great progress now! We’ve had four sessions of the Big Poppy Stitch Up and we’ve managed to sew 1220 poppies onto the hessian backdrop ready for our Remembrance display. However, we still have 325 poppies to add! That is a total of 1,547 poppies (yes, we have counted them all!) – thank you to everyone who has knitted for Remembrance and helped to make it a real community effort in spite of the current restrictions. Please join us for our last two sessions. These sessions are Covid safe; please wear a face mask and we'll ensure social distancing and appropriate cleanliness measures.
- Monday 19th October 10am - 12 noon
- Thursday 22nd October 7 - 9pm
AGM and APCM
Our Annual General Meeting and Annual Parochial Church Meeting should have taken place earlier this year but we found ourselves in national lockdown and so they were cancelled. So, next Sunday 25th October after our morning services we will meet at 11.30am in our church hall. These meetings will be run in a Covid-safe way, keeping social distancing etc. Please wear face coverings. Our AGM/APCM give us the opportunity to reflect on 2019 (seems a long time ago now!) and to consider the future. We will also be appointing Church Wardens and electing members to the PCC. If you can, please do join us for these important meetings.
Remembrance of All Souls – Monday 2nd November 6 - 7.30pm
In previous years the church has held a special All Souls Service to mark and remember all those who have died, particularly those who have died in the past year. Currently, with the global pandemic and the restrictions caused by this, we have, regrettably, had to make changes but we still want to provide an opportunity for members of our community and church to remember loved ones.
On Monday 2nd November between 6 -7.30pm we will be opening, not for a formal service, but for a quiet and contemplative time of reflection and prayer. We are encouraging individuals, along with their friends and families, to call in for a short period, to reflect, pray and light a candle in remembrance. In our chapel there will be a list of all those who have died in the last year, along with accompanying prayers people may wish to use. I will be present for the whole session and am happy to pray with individuals if they would like. Everyone is welcome to attend.
A message from Steve Venn and Mike Barge
Helpers wanted please. On Saturday 7th November there will be an Autumn Work Party to do some tidying around the church grounds. Starting at 9am we will be tackling a range of outside jobs (cutting back bushes and trees, sweeping, weeding, and clearing gutters). So please just turn up and help for as long as you can. Please bring protective gardening gloves etc. if you have them. Any questions please contact one of us.
Many thanks. Steve Venn 07803 595 915 or Mike Barge on 9226 8565.
Well, that is all for this week – do take care, and if at any point you would like a chat and/or visit, just call the Vicarage on 9226 2647. If I am out, please do leave a message and I will return your call.
With every blessing,
Revd. Emma Racklyeft - Vicar at All Saints Denmead
