Weekly Update – 3rd October 2020

03 October 2020 08:00

from Revd Emma.

Hello everyone,

As I sit writing this update it is tipping it down with rain – it seems Autumn is now well with us.

Here is the latest news on various areas at All Saints.

The Big Poppy Stitch-Up!

We’ve now had the first two sessions of the Big Poppy Stitch Up and we’ve managed to sew 577 poppies onto the hessian backdrop ready for our Remembrance display. However, we still have over a 700 poppies to add!

So please join us for our future sessions.  These sessions are Covid safe, please wear a face mask, and we'll ensure social distancing and appropriate cleanliness measures.

  • Wednesday 7th October 1pm – 3pm
  • Thursday 15th October 2pm – 4pm
  • Monday 19th October 10am - 12 noon
  • Thursday 22nd October 7 - 9pm

If you have a strong, metal tapestry needle please bring that with you to use.  You are also welcome to bring your own flask of coffee/tea as we cannot safely serve refreshments.

 Harvest 4th October 2020

This Sunday we mark Harvest; we will celebrate God’s good gifts at both our 8am and 10am services.  The church will be decorated with some floral Harvest arrangements – but this will be on a more limited scale than previous years.

As in the past we will be collecting items for the Waterlooville Food Bank.   As you can imagine, demand on this service is growing in these difficult days where many people have lost jobs or income.  Please can I encourage you to be as generous as you can, and bring every-day grocery items (unopened and in date) plus toiletries, either to the 8am or 10am service on the 4th.  Any last minute, late items can be dropped off at the church office on Mon afternoon or Tuesday morning.

Alternatively, you may like to give a financial contribution direct to the Waterlooville Foodbank by BACS transfer.  Their sort code number is 20-69-34 and account number 1363 8030.  For more information please visit

Ordination of Revd Jack Williams as Deacon

This is a reminder that on Friday 9th October Bishop Christopher will be ordaining Jack Williams as a Deacon here at All Saints at 6.30pm.  This is wonderful news for Jack, his family and friends, and for us as a parish. However, in line with current Covid-19 restrictions, this service will only be open to a limited number of 30 people, and so will be by invite only.   We will be live-streaming the service direct to our Facebook page: and if the technology works, we will also post it to our website: (If this doesn’t work, we shall post the service as soon as it finishes!)  Please do watch this service from home.

Traidcraft Christmas cards and gifts and The Children’s Society box opening

On Saturday October 17th at All Saints Church Hall, from 10am to 12pm, there will be an opportunity to browse this year’s selection of TRAIDCRAFT Christmas cards, gifts and food. There will also be opportunity to bring your Children's Society Box, if you have one, to be emptied and counted. The hall has Covid-19 safety measures in place, and everyone is welcome. Please wear face masks, sanitize your hands on arrival and follow social distancing whilst browsing.  If you are unable to attend on that Saturday, but would like to support these 2 charities, please phone me.  Thank you, Angela Herring 023 9226 3215.

Our Annual General Meeting and Annual Parochial Church Meeting should have taken place earlier this year but we found ourselves in national lockdown and so they were cancelled.  So we have now set a date of SUNDAY 25th OCTOBER at 11.30am in our church hall.  These meetings will be run in a Covid-safe way, keeping social distancing etc.  Please wear face coverings.  Our AGM/APCM give us the opportunity to reflect on 2019 (seems a long time ago now!) and to consider the future.  We will also be appointing Church Wardens and electing members to the PCC.  If you can, please join us for these important meetings.

A message from Angela Herring – our Church Electoral Roll Officer.

In preparation for our APCM we must go through the process of revising our Electoral Roll.  So, if you’re not already on our Electoral Roll, and would like to join officially here with us at All Saints please pick up an Electoral Roll form from the back of church either this Sunday, or on 4th October.  Alternatively, you are welcome to ring the church office, speak with Claire our Parish Administrator, and she can make arrangements to get a form to you.  Once your form is completed, please return to the post-box by the church hall/office door by Saturday 10th October – which is the required 2 weeks before the APCM.  If you have any other queries, please contact me on 023 9226 3215.   Angela Herring.

A message from Gill Barge – Royal Marines Concert.

As you probably guessed long ago, we've had to cancel the RM Band concert planned for 25th November, but I am now able to make the official announcement.  We hung on for as long as possible before making the decision, to allow the Band time to assess the situation, but with our own limitations due to the current Coronavirus situation, and theirs, it is not possible to host any such event in the foreseeable future.  The Band are as disappointed as we are - they are still running the M1 Conductors' course but performing in strange venues such as car parks within their training establishment!  I have stressed to them that they will be welcomed back as soon as is possible, and they are just as keen to return to normality and use All Saints as their favoured venue.  Many thanks for your support and help with the concerts in past years and we live and pray in hope that we will be able to resume next year... watch this space! Best wishes, Gill Barge

Well, that is all for this week – do take care, and if at any point you would like a chat and/or visit, just call the Vicarage on 9226 2647.  If I am out, please do leave a message and I will return your call.

With every blessing,

Revd. Emma Racklyeft - Vicar at All Saints Denmead
