Holy Week

Over the three days, Good Friday to Sunday, Christians experience the depths and heights of human emotions.  For the disciples and friends of Jesus, Good Friday was anything but good. This was the day when Christ was crucified on the cross. Their master, friend, teacher was dead and all seemed lost and they hid themselves away – they were broken people.  Sunday is the day of joy and some confusion.  Jesus is no longer dead but alive.  The chains of death have been broken once and for all and Christ has won for all of us who believe in him eternal life.

Life on this earth may often be difficult but we can now know that we have Jesus walking alongside us through our earthly life and into eternity.  The first disciples were amazed but also confused over this miraculous happening and it took a number of appearances by Jesus to the disciples to convince them that he really was risen from the dead.

If we still find it difficult to believe in Jesus Christ and have a relationship with him, and some do, then praying that he will enlighten our heart and mind is the way forward.  Bible study groups, prayer groups, and church services all help to strengthen our faith and show us how we can have a joyful relationship with Jesus.

During this week we have special services in church to walk with Jesus through his last week of life on this earth. Each day we will have a Communion service. The week builds as we journey with Christ to the Last Supper and foot washing on Maundy Thursday, the crucifixion on Good Friday and the Service of Light at 8pm on Holy Saturday. Then the Alleluias ring out as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection from the dead on Easter Sunday.

I hope that whatever you do through Holy Week and the Easter weekend – you will be able to pause and attend church and think about Jesus Christ our Saviour during this great time of passion and rejoicing.
