Weekly Update – Friday 9th October 2020
from Revd Emma.
Here is a quick update from All Saints this week.
Ordination of Revd Jack Williams as Deacon
Tonight, Bishop Christopher will be ordaining Jack Williams as a Deacon here at All Saints at 6.30pm. This is fantastic news and will mean that from now on Jack is officially Revd Jack Williams – hurrah! Sadly, this service is only open to a limited number of 30 people, and so will be by invitation only. However, we will be live-streaming the service direct to our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/allsaintsdenmead and if the technology works, we will also post it to our website: www.allsaintsdenmead.org.uk (If this doesn’t work, we shall post the service as soon as it finishes!). Please do watch this service from home and be praying for Jack as he begins in this important new role and continues to serve here as our Curate.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who contributed towards our Harvest collection this year. We had lots of groceries and toiletries given, plus £140 in cash which we have passed on to Waterlooville Food Bank. I know many of you also gave directly to the Foodbank – so thank you for your generosity and care.
Jesus – Light Up Denmead
Running from the 12th-31st October ‘Jesus, Light Up Denmead’ is a selection of seasonal events for the community of Denmead.
There are three parts – a happy, smiley face Pumpkin Carving Competition, a Light in the Darkness – Photography Competition and Messy Church Online.
For more information please either look at our website or visit our dedicated Facebook page: facebook.com/LightUpDenmead

The Big Poppy Stitch-Up!
Look how far we’ve got! We’ve now had three sessions of the Big Poppy Stitch Up and we’ve managed to sew 820 poppies onto the hessian backdrop ready for our Remembrance display. However, we still have over 668 poppies to add! That is a total of 1488 poppies (yes, we have counted them all!) – thank you to everyone who has knitted for Remembrance and helped to make it a real community effort in spite of the current restrictions. Please join us for our future sessions. These sessions are Covid safe, please wear a face mask, and we'll ensure social distancing and appropriate cleanliness measures.
Thursday 15th October 2 – 4pm,
Monday 19th October 10am - 12 noon
Thursday 22nd October 7 - 9pm.
Traidcraft Christmas cards and gifts and The Children’s Society box opening
On Saturday October 17th at All Saints Church Hall, from 10am to 12pm, there will be an opportunity to browse this year’s selection of TRAIDCRAFT Christmas cards, gifts and food. There will also be opportunity to bring your Children's Society Box, if you have one, to be emptied and counted. The hall has Covid-19 safety measures in place, and everyone is welcome. Please wear face masks, sanitize your hands on arrival and follow social distancing whilst browsing. If you are unable to attend on that Saturday, but would like to support these two charities, please phone me. Thank you, Angela Herring 023 9226 3215.
AGM and APCM
Our Annual General Meeting and Annual Parochial Church Meeting should have taken place earlier this year but we found ourselves in national lockdown and so they were cancelled. So, we have now set a date of SUNDAY 25th OCTOBER at 11.30am in our church hall. These meetings will be run in a Covid-safe way, keeping social distancing etc. Please wear face coverings. Our AGM/APCM give us the opportunity to reflect on 2019 (seems a long time ago now!) and to consider the future. We will also be appointing Church Wardens and electing members to the PCC. If you can, please join us for these important meetings.
A message from Steve Venn and Mike Barge
Helpers wanted please. On Saturday 7th November there will be an Autumn Work Party to do some tidying around the church grounds. Starting at 9am we will be tackling a range of outside jobs (cutting back bushes and trees, sweeping, weeding, and clearing gutters). So please just turn up and help for as long as you can. Please bring protective gardening gloves etc. if you have them. Any questions please contact one of us.
Many thanks. Steve Venn 07803 595915 or Mike Barge on 9226 8565.
Well, that is all for this week – do take care, and if at any point you would like a chat and/or visit, just call the Vicarage on 9226 2647. If I am out, please do leave a message and I will return your call.
With every blessing,
Revd. Emma Racklyeft - Vicar at All Saints Denmead
